UI + AI Patterns.
New patterns are coming.

I saw this neat exploration of extending the AI chat input. It combines familiar patterns (dropdowns, cards etc.) inside the text box, and helps you craft a better prompt.
I have some objections to this UI.
It’s a choppy experience. As a user, I don’t want to stop in the middle of my prompt and make selections. Plus I’m switching between typing and clicking/tapping. Two interactions in the same input feels clunky.
Lack of visibility isn’t much better than the standard AI text input: what can I get out of this chat box? It’s only after I start typing that I kind of know what the possibilities are. Even then, I’m wondering if there’s a better way to prompt that would get me better answers.
That said, I’m really happy to see UI explorations in this space.
I want to see more dynamic UI that builds itself as you prompt.
