Cloudflare outages.

Go offline.

Cloudflare outages make me glad I moved all of my digital stuff offline.

Here's how to do it yourself:

  1. Get a NAS. I repurposed an old PC with 4TB hard drives and installed TrueNAS Scale.

  2. Download everything into your NAS. Most services allow you to grab your data. Notion export, Gmail export, rclone Google Drive etc.

  3. ???

  4. Profit

I built my NAS last year, but felt intimidated by all the technicalities of actually setting it up. Claude Code was a savior. I was able to design, document, and implement a proper backup solution.

I lost all my data a few years ago when my external hard drive crashed. I figured the cloud was more secure so I moved everything there. Now with consistent outages (and privacy concerns), I don't think my data is safe in the cloud either. So I'm using some combination of the two. For now. To be continued.
